Here is a sample page from Week 1 Day 3:
Do an online search for the Shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat. What is the other name for Our Lady here? Find out the history of Our Lady of Montserrat. St Ignatius needed to make a break with his old way of life so he gave away his good clothing to a poor person. Go through your toys/clothing and find something that at one time meant a lot to you (or that you really liked) and give it away to the poor. St Ignatius wanted to do a vigil of the armor before beginning his journey to Jerusalem. Go to, or set up in your home, an altar to Our Lady and say some prayers there for the journey of your life.
Continue your research on Cortes. Make a map that shows where he traveled to and what parts of Mexico he conquered.
On page 37 of the book it describes St. Ignatius’ clothing – both his old and his new. Even if you aren’t a good drawer, draw and color a picture of what St. Ignatius would have looked like in his fancy clothes and then in his new clothing. Use the description to guide you.
I love the Renaissance Era because there were so many exciting things going on at this time. This unit study really could be expanded on in so many directions that you could spend a semester learning about this time. I hope you'll give this one a try!
